Coperni × Tamagotchi: The Egg on the Runway

A model walks the Coperni Fall/Winter 2025 runway in Paris carrying a miniature version of the house's signature Swipe Bag. The bag is roughly palm-sized. Inside it is a Tamagotchi.

This is not ironic. Coperni — the label that spray-painted a dress onto Bella Hadid's body on a live runway and built a handbag from blown glass — does not do irony. The Swipe Case is a genuine product, available in navy, black, and silver, designed to present the Tamagotchi as something worth framing.

The collaboration marks a threshold that Tamagotchi has been approaching for years. The device was always worn, not just used — clipped to a bag, dangling from a keychain, visible. The shell was always a surface that communicated something about its owner. But "keychain toy" and "fashion accessory" are different categories, and the gap between them is not bridged by accident.

Supreme put box logos on Tamagotchi shells in 2023. BAPE wrapped them in electric camo. MAX&Co. embroidered Tamagotchi characters onto Breton tees and leather bags for a capsule called "Tamagotchi in Paris." Each collaboration moved the device one step further from the toy aisle and one step closer to the vitrine.

Coperni completed the crossing. When a Paris fashion house treats a Tamagotchi as an object worth designing a case for — the same way Hermès designs cases for AirPods — the shell has become what it always almost was: a small, portable declaration of taste.

The creature inside still beeps. It still needs feeding. The care mechanic does not change because the housing got more expensive. That tension — luxury object containing an obligation — is part of the appeal.
